On May 5, 2022, the UGC, the Indian higher education authority, issued new rules allowing dual degrees between Indian universities and foreign institutions.
This decision represents a real step forward because Indian universities were not authorized to set up double degrees with international institutions until now.
However, two conditions apply:
The courses must be delivered face-to-face
Foreign institutions have to be ranked within the top 1000 in the QS or Times Higher Education rankings.
For all other institutions, gray areas remain.
